Everybody loves the smell of a new car, even though chemistry says otherwise. It consists of a mix of whiffs of solvent, petroleum , glue and foam, but all we notice is a sniff of success and lazy Sunday driving. So it was a smart choice for a new fragrance, which probably sparked off a whole new product category, which includes charming sprays like 'Old book smell to spray on your e-reader for days when you get nostalgic about dusty libraries.
Now, a group of Australian designers called Greatest Hits have joined the bandwagon by bottling the smell of the most anticipated line of products, if kidney and virginity sales on ebay are to be believed. The smell of a new Apple Macbook Pro.
According to them, "The scent created for Greatest Hits encompasses the smell of the plastic wrap covering the box, printed ink on the cardboard, the smell of paper and plastic components within the box and of course the aluminum laptop which has come straight from the factory where it was assembled in China."
I have my nose very close to my Macbook as I type this. I think I detect a topnote of crazy.
