How We used To Play VIII

In 1906 and 1912, the bar for athletic ability was so low that Olympic sharpshooters drew crowds by pretending to duel with giant dolls clothed in men's fancy dress. “Duelers” won points according to the accuracy of their aim at 30 meters- a circular target was pinned to each mannequin's chest. This sport was discontinued after 1912 perhaps because of the “pretending” and “giant doll” elements of the game.
