#85 Going to Market

Ballarò is a public market situated in Palermo, Italy. Otherwise known as “the arab market”, its name comes from “Bahlara”, an ancient village near the city from where arabian merchants came to sell their goods; and being Sicily a region historically dominated by several foreign kingdoms, it still preserves the traces of this past. Religion, multiculturalism, sicilian tradition, street gastronomy, coexistence, hard living conditions. These are the contradictory tiles that compose the complex mosaic of Ballarò.
