"I want to get married".

Getting married, virgin ideally, still represents one of the highest expectations for many women these days. A lot of time, effort and money is invested in the preparation of this special day. Wandering around a market in Mexico City, I found these wedding cake plastic dolls. At first, I was surprised by its careless making and the fact that they don’t look like the future husband and wife. Also that they are sold in large amounts, at really cheap prices like disposable objects, losing their uniqueness and sentimental value. But much more than that, I couldn’t help but noticing they represent Mexico’s surrealism, where stereotypes and its reinterpretations live together in such a natural way that many times it goes unnoticed. They are part of an honest dialogue of contradictions, full of tenderness, that revealed the comedy behind them. By photographing them, I intended to make them special again, give them back their uniqueness and saving them from oversight This series is also a tribute to Mexico and its festive spirit.
