THE PROJECT GOES ON

We are very proud of the enthusiastic response that we got from all our contributors and thank all of them for the wonderful work they have accomplished. Since the project began, we have received Notebooks far beyond our expectations.

COLORS Notebook started out as a blank issue of COLORS. We invited our loyal readers and their friends/family and colleagues to write, illustrate and design it. The project springs from a project with Reporters sans Frontières, an association which fights to protect freedom of speech for all and defends journalists all over the world. Each copy of COLORS Notebook we have received is unique. It is the first issue without filters or an editorial department. It is a volume in which you are free to tell stories that nobody ever wanted to listen to and put your own message out to the world through words, illustrations and photos. It is a way to share your personal notes and thoughts.
It is a different medium to give a real voice to “the rest of the world”.

Over the last two years the Notebooks have been submitted by individuals, families, friends and peers who then sent them back to us. Thousands of people like you, yet different from you, have been and indeed continue submitting them. Copies of COLORS Notebook will be shown to the public in paper and digital formats and have been exhibited at the Pompidou Center in Paris in October 2006, the Triennale di Milano in 2007, the Shanghai Art Museum in 2007 and the Shiodomeitalia Creative Center in Tokyo in 2008.

The most innovative and interesting authors will become part of the Fabrica network of correspondents.

A selection of the COLORS Notebooks we have received have now become a book in two volumes, “Faces” and “Violence”, presented at TYPOBerlin 2008. Faces is a collection of portraits and self-portraits from people around the world, while Violence presents accounts, sometimes very harrowing, of the injustices which occur all over the world.

All Notebooks are different from one another. Create your copy. Once it’s done send it back to us (see Contacts). It will become part of the COLORS Notebook Project. Please include a profile of yourself or your creative group.

Let COLORS Notebook be your tabula rasa and do whatever you want with it. This project celebrates the importance of people around the world and allows them to have a valuable voice.
