Extraordinary Records

A collectors encyclopedia of over 400 vinyl records
Published by TASCHEN in collaboration with Colors magazine.
Preface by Giorgio Moroder, Academy Award-winning composer, songwriter and producer.

Colors Extraordinary Records is a showcase of vinyl records, gems full of music and color in a form that is currently making a comeback. An informative and fascinating catalogue for all those who appreciate the only medium that conveys the original sound quality that the artists wanted you to hear.

The original collection brings new meaning to the term “album art” and features not record covers but the records themselves, forming an amazing catalogue in a plethora of colors, shapes, and forms.

Colors Extraordinary Records includes over 400 records owned by Guinness-award-winning Italian collector Alessandro Benedetti. From artists such as Pink Floyd, Queen, and the Beatles to Prince, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Bon Jovi and many others, these rare and valuable records run the gamut from gold, transparent or painted to those shaped like a map, butterfly, heart, star, or even a tree!

The collection has been thematically divided into six chapters: monochrome vinyl, unusual vinyl (including extremely rare records made with glow-in-the-dark vinyl; silver, gold or mirror vinyl; with holograms etched into the vinyl), multicolored vinyl (showing infinite variations and combinations of colors), etched vinyl (where music is pressed onto only one side), shaped vinyl (cut into forms that are different from the classic round disc) and picture discs (where a photograph or design is stamped onto the surface of the record).

In Colors style, the book forms a junction between design, photo and writing, allowing the reader to approach album art from various angles while learning thousands of anecdotes about the bands themselves.

Fruit of the long-lasting collaboration between Colors and TASCHEN, other Colors ‘extraordinary books’ have included the best-seller 1000 Extra/ordinary Objects, a humorous and educational guide to the most uncanny objects of the 20th century, and 1000 Signs, an amusing collection of road signs from around the world.
