In a September 2010 friendly match, the notoriously weak Bahrain beat a surprisingly sluggish Togo team 3-0. An official investigation by Togolese officials later revealed that the African nation’s team had been composed of 15 impostors, each paid US$300 by a Singaporean betting syndicate to pose as their more skillful compatriots.

Coach Banna Tchanilé had previously led another fake Togo team to an international tournament in July 2010, where it lost 0-5 to Morocco and 0-7 to Egypt.
